Community

Hawaiian Electric Company is deeply committed to supporting the communities it serves.  To accomplish this, HECO promotes:

  • Employee volunteer support for community projects through its Community Action Group.

  • Employee involvement in community organizations.

  • Monetary, personnel and program support for education, family and the environment.

  • "HECO In Your Community" events to promote energy efficiency and electrical safety at community neighborhood programs.

  • Key information about staying safe during a power outage, disaster, or storm in our "Safety and Emergency" section.

  • A combination of education-based robotics programs from the elementary to high school levels.  These robotics programs develop science, technology, and math skills in thousands of Hawaii's youth each year.

  • Environmental programs, including landscaping and native garden projects at Hawaii's schools, the annual Grow Hawaiian Festival, Arbor Day plant giveaways, and a variety of educational workshops and activities promoting the use of native plants to protect and preserve our island environment.

  • A weekly column in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin highlighting favorite recipes, community events, and energy tips that can help you save money in the kitchen.
