Apple Strudel

Demonstrated by: Cyrus Goo of Café Laufer

Ingredients

4 lb baking apples
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 cup raisins
1/4 cup almond slices
1/4 cup bread crumbs
6 sheets phyllo
1 cup clarified butter
Whipped cream or ice cream
Powdered sugar

Instructions

Preheat electric oven to 350 F. Pare, core, and slice apples; place in large bowl. Add cinnamon, raisins, almonds, and bread crumbs; toss lightly. Brush each sheet of phyllo with some of the butter; stack sheets. Add remaining butter to apple mixture; mix well. Place apple mixture lengthwise on one edge of phyllo; roll like a jelly roll. Place, seam side down, on a baking pan; brush top with additional melted butter. Bake for about 30 minutes or until lightly browned. Cut into serving pieces. Top with whipped cream or ice cream; sprinkle with powdered sugar. Makes 6 to 8 servings.
