The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching
Recognizing Outstanding Science and Math Teachers
Established by the White House and sponsored by the National Science Foundation, Hawaiian Electric Company locally supports this program, which recognizes outstanding science and math teachers throughout the nation.
This program was established in 1983 by the White House and is sponsored by the National Science Foundation. Outstanding mathematics and science teachers are identified in each state.
Recognition is given to teachers in four award groups: elementary mathematics, elementary science, secondary mathematics, and secondary science. These teachers serve as role models for their colleagues and are leaders in the improvement of mathematics and science education.
Hawaiian Electric has supported this program since 1989. In recognition of Hawaii's outstanding teachers, Hawaiian Electric provides a grant and plaque to each state finalist and winner in all categories.
Hawaiian Electric partners with the State Department of Education and the School Renewal Group.
