HECO APPOINTS SEKIMURA AS
FINANCIAL VICE PRESIDENT

Tayne Sekimura has been appointed as Financial Vice President for Hawaiian Electric Co., Inc., it was announced today by T. Michael May, HECO  President and Chief Executive Officer. Sekimura, who joined the company in 1991, most recently served as Director, Corporate & Property Accounting.  Her previous posts at HECO included Director of Internal Audit, Capital Budgets Administrator, and Internal Auditor.

Prior to working at HECO, Sekimura held management and supervisory positions at KPMG Peat Marwick and Long Distance/USA.  She has a Bachelor’s of Business Administration degree from the University of Hawaii and is a Certified Public Accountant.

“Tayne has a wide range of financial experience both with HECO and with other businesses,” said May in making the announcement.  “She has consistently demonstrated extraordinary leadership skills that will make her an outstanding CFO for our company.”

Effective October 18, she will replace Rick von Gnechten, who is relocating to North Carolina for family reasons.   “Rick has done an excellent job for us.  We are sorry to see him go. We express our gratitude for his contributions and wish his family and him a fond aloha,” May said.
