Kapolei Middle School
Kapolei Middle School is the twentieth school to receive a Sun Power for Schools photovoltaic (PV) system. The two individual systems, one on the gate post of the entrance of Building C (Cultural Center) and the other mounted on the wall and fence of the play court, were installed on November 19, 2004.
Both of these systems consist of a solar panel that charges a battery during the daytime, from which it is later used to provide additional lighting in their respective locations. The solar lighting controller regulates the battery charging/discharging and also controls the lighting operation.
Each off-grid PV area lighting systems consists of:
• |
65-watt PV panel |
• |
80 amp-hour battery |
• |
Charge/light controller |
• |
Light fixture with 26-watt compact fluorescent lamp |
