For more than 100 years, Hawaiian Electric Company has provided the energy that has fueled the islands' development from a Hawaiian kingdom to a modern state.  Hawaiian Electric Company, Inc. (HECO), and its subsidiaries, Hawaii Electric Light Company, Inc. (HELCO), and Maui Electric Company, Ltd. (MECO), serves 95% of the state’s 1.2 million residents on the islands of O`ahu, Hawai`i Island, Maui, Lana`i and Moloka`i. 

The energy we use is an essential but limited resource necessary to maintaining our quality of life.  In a changing world, The Hawaiian Electric family has evolved to offer more than electricity.

Company Position on Global Warming: Hawaii Electric Light Company shares the very serious concerns of many regarding the potential effects of global warming and human contributions to this phenomenon, including the burning of fossil fuels for electricity production, transportation, manufacturing, agricultural activities and deforestation. 

To effectively address global warming, actions addressing all contributing sources must be taken with priority given to those which provide the greatest benefit for the costs involved.  To be successful, the response to global warming requires commitment by private sector businesses, all levels of government, and every member of the public.
